     The Institute of State and Law (ISL) was established in 1967. The institute of State and Law is a scientific research institution under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. It does basic research on state and law; provides scientific justifications for formulation of guidelines, strategies, planning and policies to build and develop state and law of Viet Nam; participates in national development of human resource in law studies; delivers legal consultancy services and legal information for agencies, organizations and individuals in and outside of the country.

 

     At present, the ISL main research directions are focusing on the following issues: constitutional law and political system; advocating for the rule of law; promotion of democracy and public participation, promotion and protection of human rights; legal and institutional framework for market economy and international economic integration; environment law and other institutions for sustainable development.

 

     In the period of 2015-2020, the Institute is researching the roles and functions of the state in the current context; Judicial review; supervision of state powers; Regional Sustainable Development Institution; Law on regional planning and urban planning; Law on migration, foreign workers; Institutional in response to climate change; Legislation on renewable and clean energy; Institutional reforms to promote innovation and motivate development; Implement international commitments: Free Trade Agreements (FTAs); the International Convention on the Law of the Sea.

 

     The institute has cooperated with international partners for years. The trusted partners are Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Federal Republic of Germany); Rule of Law Program, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Federal Republic of Germany); Asia Legal Information Network (ALIN); Korea Legislation Research Institute (Korea); Chung – Ang University (Korea); Latrobe University (Australia); Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, University of Oslo; European Delegation to Vietnam; Institute of Law, China Academy of Social Sciences. Workshops, joint projects are run in both domestic and in foreign countries.
